Volunteer to put Raleigh on the Map for Twestival Local

Posted on: 13 August 2009 at 1006 - Comment

Raleigh,

Twestival is all about ‘Local’ this fall. It’s still happening across the globe, but it’s up to us to pick our favorite local charity and make this event count for Raleigh. Do you want to get involved? It will take the help of just a few passionate, creative, strong helping hands to make Twestival Local happen in Raleigh and make a difference in the lives of some deserving individuals. What do you say?

Some background on Twestival Local:

  • What is a Twestival? Simply put: it’s a volunteer driven event, organized in short time via twitter, to benefit charitable causes.
  • Have you done this before? Yes, check out the fantastic event we did in February 2009. See all of the great sponsors and volunteers still listed in our sidebar. Read the blog archive for even more background.
  • What is Twestival Local 2009 all about?
  • What are the guidelines for picking a local charity?
  • Where are other cities getting involved? See the sidebar list and map on twestival.com
  • How do we pull this off? There are cool tools we can use (in addition to twitter) for Twestival Local

Volunteer Positions Needed:

  1. City Organizer
  2. Volunteer Coordinator
  3. Venue Organizer
  4. Sponsor Coordinator
  5. Media Coordinator
  6. Website / Twitter Coordinator
  7. Event Volunteers (several positions)
  8. Photographer
  9. Videographer

Key Dates:

  • August 25th - City registration closes, charity submission needed
  • Sept 10-13th - Event to take place this week

Obviously some of these duties could be combined but I wanted to break things down and make it a team effort as much as possible. If you are interested in getting involved, please follow @raltwestival on twitter. I am planning to have Skype calls during the evening hours this week to fill volunteer positions. Please DM @raltwestival or email raleightwestival at gmail if you are interested.

MyNC Twestival Videos feature you, Raleigh’s charitable twitterers

There are three new videos on MyNC this week featuring sponsors and attendees of the Raleigh Twestival charity tweetup for Charity:Water.

Follow Shannon Smith on twitter, to reach out to assist him with a personal clean water project for Kenya. Special thanks to Lisa Sullivan and Jenna Loomer for shooting and producing these for us! And I echo my previous gushing about the hyper-local MyNC team and the fine folks over at NBC17.

@theRab

Thank you thank you thank you. Through the generosity of our fantastic Raleigh Twestival attendees, we raised $1010.00 in cash on February 12th at Edge Office. This number represents donations from $20 at-door fees, $2 “water offsets” and Raffle ticket sales. Add this to the ticket sales, tipjoy pledges and direct donations and we raised $2284.40 in total.

Hey did you know you can view all of the Raleigh Twestival Raffle Winners? Just search twitter for hashtag #raltwestivalgc

I want to give the first tweet from said iPhone to the person who gives a donation to Charity:Water in Raleigh’s name. This generous person will also receive an iTune Gift Card in addition to all the positive twitter karma. Thanks for playing.

I thought it was better to ask our community and on the same question on twitter.

In your own words, what did this experience mean to you?

Incredible way to give back and to those less fortunate. Everyone was so supportive of this event to do good and have fun doing it. We have built a large social networking community here in the Triangle area (Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, NC). We have done a lot to help each through sharing knowledge and technical skills, and it is time to give something back. We are harnessing the power of social media for social change.

This isn’t all of our video content, we’ll be working on more to be put on our blog this week.

Would you support charity: water again, or would you like to support another cause?

This was one of the questions from Twestival HQ to the city organizers. I thought this was a better question for our Triangle twitter community. Answer Yes, No. If no, what charity should we consider? (include url)

Coming up over the next week or two we’ll be posting some new content from the event and from our lovely twestival attendees and gracious sponsors. Expect photos, videos and other cool things to reflect on our Raleigh Twestival and we’ll share with you what is coming up next for the “tweeple” of the Triangle. Are you social Carolina? Stay tuned….

P.S. comment here with your suggestions, questions, content for us to talk about, and cool stuff we can reblog. Thanks!!
